Vaux le Vicomte
An incredible journey in the footsteps of history! Carried by the winds, the hot-air balloon sails across the skies of Ile-de-France, just an hour from Paris, to discover the landscapes and historic sites around Vaux-le-Vicomte.
Vaux le Vicomte is the famous château built by King Louis XIV's Superintendent of Finances. Located near Melun, about an hour from Paris, this 17th-century château was built by the finest artists of the time. The king called on them and drew inspiration from its architecture, decor and gardens for the construction of the Château de Versailles;
The Château de Vaux le Vicomte is one of France's exceptional and must-see sites. This magnificent monument hosted two sumptuous festivities in July 1661 in honor of the Queen Mother of England, and in August 1661 in honor of Louis XIV. The king, jealous of Fouquet's success, had him arrested and imprisoned a few days later!
This place, castle and gardens alike, is well worth a visit from the sky and the balcony of a hot-air balloon!
The château comprises around 100 rooms on 3 levels. As in the Middle Ages, it is surrounded by a wide moat. Four pavilions surround a central courtyard of characteristic French architectural style.
It was in the Moret-sur-Loing dungeon, another magical site from which we're flying you, that Nicolas Fouquet was locked up on the evening of his arrest by King Louis XIV at Vaux-le-Vicomte!
257 plane trees, 300 yew and boxwood trees, 500 ha, 9 km of bower, a 13 km perimeter wall... a garden worthy of the genius of the designer of these sumptuous French gardens: the famous gardener Le Nôtre!
The gardens stretch out from the château in a series of terraces, sculpted grottoes, flower and embroidery beds, as well as a water grid, a large canal and a square basin. This symmetrical, enchanting vegetal décor offers an enchanting stroll. A paradise-like haven of peace opens up before the eyes of visitors for a rich and fascinating discovery, or simply a gentle stroll.
On certain summer evenings, Vaux-le-Vicomte is illuminated by thousands of candles placed on the façade of the château and in the park, where musicians sometimes play.
From the balloon, you'll also fly over landscapes shaped by the work of farmers like painters' palettes: welcome aboard!
